1. Float to Live
If you get in trouble on the water, tilt your head back with
ears submerged. Relax and try to control your breathing,
using your hands to help keep you afloat. Then call for help
or swim to safety.
2. How to get out of a rip current
If you find yourself being swept out to sea, don’t try to
swim against the tide. You’ll only exhaust yourself. If you
can stand up, wade. If you can, swim parallel to the shore
until you’re free of the rip. Always raise your hand and
shout for help.
3. Don’t get caught out by the tide
Watch out for the incoming tide. Always take a phone with
you and keep it securely attached to your body, so you can
call for help if needed.
4. In an emergency dial 999 or 112
and ask for the coastguard

Health Benefits of Open Water Swimming
Cardiovascular Health: Swimming in open water provides an excellent cardiovascular workout. It strengthens the heart muscle, improves circulation, and helps lower blood pressure, reducing the risk of heart disease.
Improved Respiratory Function: The rhythmic breathing patterns required during open water swimming can enhance lung capacity and respiratory efficiency, promoting better oxygen uptake and overall respiratory health.
Muscle Strength and Endurance: Swimming engages multiple muscle groups simultaneously, including the arms, legs, core, and back. Regular open water swimming can lead to increased muscle strength, endurance, and tone.
Low-Impact Exercise: Unlike high-impact activities like running, swimming is gentle on the joints, making it an ideal exercise for individuals with joint pain or arthritis. Open water swimming provides a full-body workout with minimal risk of injury.
Weight Management: Swimming burns calories and boosts metabolism, aiding in weight management and fat loss. The resistance of the water also adds an extra challenge, helping to tone muscles and improve body composition.
Stress Reduction: Immersion in natural environments like lakes, rivers, or oceans can have a calming effect on the mind and body. Open water swimming in serene surroundings can reduce stress, anxiety, and tension, promoting mental well-being and relaxation.
Improved Mental Health: Regular exercise, including open water swimming, releases endorphins, which are known as “feel-good” hormones. Swimming outdoors in natural settings can also enhance mood, alleviate symptoms of depression, and increase feelings of happiness and contentment.
Enhanced Immune Function: Exposure to cold water during open water swimming may stimulate the immune system, leading to a temporary boost in immune function. Additionally, regular exercise has been shown to support overall immune health and reduce the risk of illnes
